Hawaii’s a great place to raise children but it’s hard to know what’s okay to feed them. We eat a lot of different foods here than on the mainland so figuring out when to start baby on what is tough. We’ve got a guide for you so set that homesecuritysystem.com alarm and get out to your local farmer’s market: babies love these foods!
Mangoes: Nothing’s better than a pureed mango to a babyso sweet and flavorful! The good news is that they’re readily available and you can get organic ones all across this great state.
King’s Hawaiian: Hawaiian bread is special – it’s made with Poi – and that’s a great way to get some extra fiber into your baby’s diet. It’s purple, too, so that’s a great way to get them to eat it from the get go!
Coconut Milk: Babies love milk and though coconut milk isn’t as high fat as some of its counterparts it’s a great way to get some extra fruit into your baby’s meals. Try it with their dry cereal or just spoon to them like regular baby foodl

While co sleeping has been a common practice in most non-Western cultures, it is only recently becoming accepted in Western society.
The reason for this change stems from the fact that parents are becoming more aware of the truths and fallacies regarding co-sleeping.
Parents are told that there is a possibility their baby will die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) if he/she is sleeping with them. The truth is, there are fewer cases of SIDS in countries, like Japan, where co-sleeping is a common practice. Co-sleeping also benefits breast feeding mothers because without needing to get up in the middle of the night to feed, the mother loses less sleep, and may be encouraged to breast feed longer.
New mothers are told that they should let their child cry until he/she falls asleep. This practice is not only detrimental to the baby, but stressful to the family as well. A baby will develop a secure attachment when all needs are met, including being comforted.
Sleeping with your baby also prevents the possibility of the baby being kidnapped, or attacked by a pet.
Independence is not taught, but occurs naturally when a child feels secure and loved in the home environment.

The first few days with a newborn are exciting, but so tiring! Newborn babies tend to sleep most of the time during their first few days, but in spurts of one to three hours. They wake up to be fed and have a diaper change, but not much more. It is really important to follow the age old advice to sleep when your baby sleeps! The up and down schedule will wear you out. Some newborns like to be swaddled tightly in a blanket. This recreates the feeling of being in the womb. Sometimes this helps calm a fussy baby.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . Make sure to have the nurses show you how to wrap the baby in this fashion. The first few days can be quite unpredictable. Many babies have their days and nights mixed up. Some are fussy and some are calm. Try to stay calm and relaxed when holding your baby. You may have to try rocking or walking with your baby to see what soothes them. Babies will not receive a bath until the umbilical cord falls off, but you can give them a sponge bath. Just be sure to be quick and keep them warm while doing this. The first few days go by in a blur! Enjoy every minute with your newborn.

After the joy of having a new baby, postpartum depression can set in about 10 of mothers and new parents may not be quite aware of the symptoms or causes.

Some new mothers will begin to experience the feeling of sadness or exhaustion that can extend longer than the normal baby blues. This is a real and true type of depression that is brought on by childbirth and is called postpartum depression.

New parents may recognize this as it sets in about 2 ” 3 weeks after childbirth. The feelings a new mom may experience are feelings of sadness, despair, discouragement, hopelessness, worthlessness and she may cry a lot. She may have trouble concentrating and feel a loss of appetite. She may feel not bonded to her baby and feel very indifferent about the birth. Feelings of being overwhelmed without hope that things get better and not feeling happy at all are things that a new mom may feel.

If these feelings last a long period of time, or all day long, it is advisable to call the doctor and see what he can do to help. When treated properly, postpartum depression will go away and a new mom will begin to feel much better. Some treatments may involve therapy, medications, or sometimes both. Rest and exercise are also helpful in treating postpartum depression.Want to know more?

If you are a parent in Hawaii and want to meet and mingle with other Hawaiian parents all you have to do is go to places that parents go with their children. Going to places like parks, baby aerobics, community get together, and child friendly restaurants are great places to meet other parents. A local parenting class is also a good location to meet other parents and to share some parenting tips. Parents always like to have other parents to talk to. Whether it is the next door neighbors of a new baby or someone you met at the park having a friend that is also a parent is always great.
If you are new to an area and want to make friends introduce yourself to parents when you get the chance. You might want to invite them over for a play date with your kids. That can be a great way to connect with parents and make some new friends. Your child can also benefit from this because they can also make new friends and build closer relationships even if they are babies. Babies love to interact with other babies. When meeting other parents it is always a good idea to include the children. That is how you build great relationships.
